Spring Sneaks Into Rainbow Creek by: brendasue

+Rockin' Robin!

Hi Everybody!!!!!!!  Guess What????  Our unusually long and cold winter in South Texas left last week and Spring sneaked in this week.  All my Spring Bloomers are popping out. The tulip Magnolias are purple flowers overnight!  I have one fruiting Pear bloomed out, two Peach trees,  All of the Redbuds have popped.
To celebrate the arrival of spring  our photostudy today will be on the colorful, whimsical Pansy Flower!  Enjoy the Parade!

By the way, I found all these wonderful Pansies at Bluebonnet Herb Farms right here in Hempstead!

For my Photography Students and Photofriends:  You will notice I am trying out a new (to me) editing program--Picnik, in the Picasa Web Albums on your Google Account.  I have found this to be a Great Site (Picasa/Picnic) and one benefit is making cyber friends all over the world and watching the photos to learn exactly what is going on in this big world. See what you think of the new Effects for the Spring Collection!!  Then Try It-You might like it!!!!!!

The Name of this White Beauty is:  Happy Birthday Brandi!
(love, Mom)

Please leave some comments if you have any thoughts one way or the other about the editing effects!  I believe there is a comment place on this Blogger.  Or, you are welcome to visit My Galleries at Picasa:

You can leave comments there and visit any of my photofriends' albums by clicking their square

Or email me at katescabin@gmail.com

Thanks for coming by to see the Pansies.  Happy Spring!

Farewell To The Canadians! by: brendasue

Hi Everybody, Come on in!  Today we are saying Farewell to the Canadians. Winter is over and it is time for them to leave Texas.
Enjoy these shots of them on their winter vacation.  I was outside when I heard them in the sky. They came in from the southeast, turned North right over me. They are so graceful in flight. They fly as one.

To my Photofriends in Canada, Jerry, Derek, and Pierrette, Your Geese are headed Home!

Bye Bye       See you next year!

Press Release, Breaking News: The Snow Queen Selects Red Mate by: brendasue

Hi Everybody!  Come on in.  I know you can not wait to hear more about this breaking news:  The Snow Queen takes a Red Mate! I have new photos of the happy couple.

You may remember The Snow Queen is the rare female Cardinal that appeared to me  around the time Texas was predicted to get snow--another rare occurrence!  Well, we did not get the snow, but we got the Snow Queen the rare bird with the white face!  The first day I saw her, she was still a new baby without all her feathers.  The white face looked so funny to me as my mind says those birds are brown! I started to name her clown face!  I am glad I selected Snow Queen as she is a very regal bird.  She comes to the feeding station everyday with all the other cardinals. Early mornings are best and late in the evening. They seem to enjoy each others company. When they are not eating, they are in the different nesting zones they establish, building nests and singing so each other knows where each is.  It must be the security system to protect from the wild wood cats.  It has just become routine with the return of spring that the old lady will bring the seed out and they will gather to eat!  Enjoy!

I received good news yesterday. A photo of the Snow Queen from a week or so ago was made Webshots News Photo of the Day.  It is a world wide site, so comments are coming even from England about our best little bird in Texas!
Here is the link below if you want to see her Photo and comments!

This is a cool site if you share photos!

Also, I will give you the link to this Cardinal Site with good information about these birds:

http://cardinalbird.org/

And one more link to friend of Kates Cabin-Mark. This link is to his album with the partially white hummingbirds and blue jays:

Mark takes the best bird photos.  I wish he would come shoot the Snow Queen!  My camera will not focus on that face of hers!

That concludes our Breaking News of the Snow Queen.  I encourage you all to feed some birds where ever you are. And let me know if you get any rare white ones!
