WORLD NATURE CLASS-2-27-2010-Discover Life On Rainbow Creek by: brendasue

CANADIANS COME TO RAINBOW CREEK!
WELCOME TO ALL PEOPLE OF EARTH.  TODAY AT KATES CABIN BIRD SANTUARY WE ARE CELEBRATING THE CANADIANS.

WELCOME CLASS:  Look at this Pot of Gold I found at the End of the Rainbow to share with You!  Parts of the Woods are so dark and deep that sunlight only glances through the trees.  Have you ever had the feeling that someone is behind you and watching you?  Well, I get that feeling most of the time in the woods because most of the time eyes are watching me. Of all the things I have seen in the woods, when I see it, it is already looking at me. I have never found a human in these woods. In this part of Texas we do not have any big game or Bears. Mostly,  I see birds. Sometimes racoons, possums, armidillos, red fox and deer. I have learned to tell by the sound of twigs and leaves what is moving across them. The most threatening live thing we have here is snakes: cottonmouths, copperheads and rattlers. I walk the woods and creekbeds more in the winter while the snakes are asleep. When the frogs and crickets start to sing again, I do not walk the deep woods.

So today I hear something moving in the woods. I feel I am being watched.  Well, Look who it is:  Blue Boy.
Let the Class Begin!

We have a Beautiful Spring Day at the other end of Rainbow Creek. The tree in the very center of the photo is a Sycamore Tree.  When he is bare of leaves, his striking white bark really displays the winter beauty.  In England, they are called:  Plane Tree.  It has little balls yet hanging in the branches. This is where the seeds are stored for future trees.

Now Class, if you have been with me for awhile now, you know sometimes things just get strange around here. It seems I am always the last one to hear about what is going on.
Well, it seems that in honor of the Olympics in Canada, we have some Ambassadors of Good Will that have come to Texas for a visit. And they have come to Rainbow Creek!  (Who knew?)

So as we say goodbye to this Sycamore Tree, Let us go Greet our new Friends from Canada!  Our Photostudy today will be on these Canadians. We will get a glimpse of what they are like.

Welcome to Texas and our green, green grass! How was your Flight?

This concludes our Photostudy for today.  Thanks to the Cannadians for dropping in.   A great Spring Day!

Thank You to all who are Joining our Class on Rainbow Creek.
It is my hope that Gardeners, Birders, all Natue Lovers & Photographers UNITE and Photograph the World.

Remember Big Blue Boy is watching You!

January 11, 2010 Discover Life at Kates Cabin on Rainbow Creek, A Bird Sanctuary in Waller County, Texas, USA, Earth

GOLD is Discovered at the Bird Sanctuary on Rainbow Creek-Deep in the Heart of Texas and the RUSH is on.

Welcome to Everyone in the World

Here is Kay Lonnie on the roof ready to signal the start of our Nature Class. Come on up!

Kay Lonnie, Give the Signal. What is that coming out of your mouth? Have you been smoking up there?

Oh, it is too cold? Let's try that signal one more time.

Oh yes, I see what you mean: It is still too cold to have our class on the roof. Let's go back down and inside to the bedroom window. I will make some hot coffee.

Oh Look! There is Little Rambo at the top of the tallest pine tree! He just breezed by us on the roof screaming all the way.

Good Morning Little Rambo, you are looking so handsome today in your grown up colors. Then he was off hunting on Rainbow Creek.

Pop Quiz for today: Name this beautiful golden flower. I welcome your comments, answers or questions either here on site or at: katescabin@gmail.com or: Brendasue Watson at Kates Cabin, P O Box 743, Hempstead, Texas 77445. Keep those cards and letters coming as it gets pretty lonely with only birds and dogs to talk to!

Okay, lets move on to the photostudy for today. This January Bird is named the American Goldfinch. They travel with the Pine Siskins. There is over 300 outside today. They feed in groups. The cardinals watch over these little birds and feed them sometime.
Outside my bedroom window is a thislte seed sock hanging in the apple tree. Like the siskins, these goldfinch love this treat. Enjoy this gold discovered on Rainbow Creek today.

This concludes our photostudy of the American Goldfinch today. Thanks for stopping by and viewing the birds of Rainbow Creek. Now grab your camera, go outside and Look Up!

There is GOLD in the Trees!.................................Iam brendasue signing off...........Happy Trails!
