January 7, 2010 Discover Life at Kates Cabin on Rainbow Creek, A Bird Sanctuary in Waller County, Texas, USA, Earth

The North Pole arrived in Texas at Kates Cabin on Rainbow Creek as predicted by All Weather Channels. It is Bitter Bone Chilling Cold. The Birds all ate big meals today getting ready for The Big Chill Tonight. To all of my Dear Friends who are thinking caring positive thoughts for my birds and I, Thank You.

This is what the cold looks like: A Blue Norther, but in a 'blue year', it is only to be expected!

The Cardinals are puffing up their feathers to stay warm today!
Come on in and Welcome to my World Class! by: brendasue

There is someone new coming in now. In quick review, I am offering this Nature Class (for free) in an Effort for all People on Earth to become more Aware of the Living Things sharing the Planet with Us. This is a site where we are not identified by our differences, rather enhanced by the simple fact that we are all Human Beings Living on this Planet Earth. Among us are vast numbers of Non Human Beings. Who Are They? What is their life like on this Planet?
I have opened up the Bird Sanctuary on Rainbow Creek as a Starting Point to Discover the Woods around us. Who Lives Here?
We usually meet on the rooftop deck, but it is too cold today. And the Ant is busy writing his new screen play: "Ant on a Cold Tin Roof" So we are going inside where it is warm today. My Bed is next to a window with a view of my private bird courtyard. I have created a photo op for us by hanging a bag of thistle seed in the apple tree.
So come sit on my bed and we will open the window to view the class photostudy for today.

Our study today will be this little bird sitting here on a branch like a normal bird.

This Bird is named a Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus). I will relate the Bird Field Guide Description as we go along viewing the photos. Now when you hang a bag of this seed, these little birds go wild! They just love it! As they get aggressive over this food, they display their open feathers at each other trying to scare off the intruder. Enjoy the Phototour out my window today!

The Pine Siskin
Field Marks: A small, dark, heavily streaked finch with a deeply notched tail. A touch of yellow in wings and tail. In size and action resembles American Goldfinch.

This concludes our class tonite. Think about these little birds. Think about hanging a feeder out your window by your bed! I call these birds the New Year birds as they come to Kates in January. They arrived on January 3 with the American Goldfinches. There are hundreds here and I love to capture their behavior.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland and Rocking on Through Electric Avenue at Kates Cabin on Rainbow Creek, A Bird Sanctuary

Melting Blizzard Conditions Strike Kates Cabin on Rainbow Creek Overnight!
Yes Folks, I am talking cold, cold rain. The Summer Drought of 2009 is definately over and all the trees are sucking water into their roots. Many things are happening underground as above ground appears dead and frozen. Even now, Spring is being planned!

Hi Kate: Grandma Poppy is on this internet bringing you gifts from your Rainbow Creek!
I am 'Wired'. Or is that, Wireless? I am plugged in, or is that 'Unplugged'? Whatever.....I am here. Have a look at what is in Grandma Poppy's Garden for you Today:

We are all Going Green- It is the Scene for 2010!

There are bees in the trees working hard to make Honey for us.

The Bees also pollinate this Purple Leaf Plum flower so we will have sweet plums to eat.

We have a Rainbow Garden of Winter Flowers-- The one above is: Oh Sweet Pea, Won't you Dance with Me?

Lizzy like this orange Pansy.
