Rainbow Creek
Waller County, Texas
HI EVERYBODY!!!!
Come on in to our mini Nature Class.
For the Month of May we will be going to Rainbow Creek to see the Birds come in at sunset. There have always been a few Birds here, but now for some reason, thousands have started coming here to spend the night! They leave every morning for the day. I have been walking down the Creek everyday at Sunset to Photograph these Birds. This is quite a challenge for old Granny as I have never seen Birds in these numbers. My little point and shoot Canon has difficulty with the distance to subjects. I am further challenged by the changing light at the end of day, the bright sun, the clouds or no clouds, shooting on the water, straight line shooting across from the Nesting Trees. plus shooting in the tops of trees meeting the sky. I keep changing perspective by going to different areas around the creek. It has been a great way to observe these beautifl birds and learn about their behavior. Thousands of birds are coming in to just a few trees yet they do not wreck into each other as humans do. There seems to be an order to their arrival time. They seem to know the branch that is their assigned branch! This is a Colony of Birds so there are many different different varieties spending the night
together. We can see there are mated couples, as well as many singles. They seem to care for each other and communicate in loud chatter until dark when everyone is settled for the night!
We will discover them together as I do not know all of these Birds.
In Bird Watching Lingo I have discovered the Gold Mine of Birds! I will go everyday down to the Creek to see them as long as they are here. As usual, this appears to be just for Me and the little King as no one else is here to see this Glorious Sight. I am Lucky!
